''The Ostrobothnians'' ((フィンランド語:Pohjalaisia)) is a three-act opera by Leevi Madetoja composed during the years 1920-1923, and first performed in Helsinki on 25 October 1924. It was also staged in Stockholm during 1927 and in Copenhagen the following year. Later the composer adapted some of the music into the orchestral suite of the same name. The opera is based on the play of the same name, written by Anton Kangas and published Artturi Järviluoma, which was also filmed under the title ''Kankaankylässä''. It was revived at the Finnish National Opera in the 1956–1957 season〔Bourke, Gerard, "Finnish National Opera" (Spring 1957). ''Tempo'' (New Ser.), 43: pp. 16-17, 21.〕 and also in 2010.〔(Finnish National Opera launches a new season )〕 ==References==
